/dev/null/nethack 2008 wrapup
The /dev/null/nethack tournament will be ending in 10 minutes as I start writing this (it will probably be over by the time I'm done. Despite having to take a lot of time off to rest my hands, deal with life stuff, and for other reasons, I managed to meet my goals for the tournament!
I ascended three games. The first two (a knight and a valkyrie) were a streak (making a three-game streak, as my prior game over on NAO was also a win), then I had three wizards die and almost gave up due to time getting tight with only a couple of days left in the tournament before I got a solid game and started pushing myself to make enough time to finish it.
I was reminded today exactly how very good wizards are, and just how much use they can make of all sorts of spells, particularly post-Quest. Being able to casually cast finger of death whenever you don't feel like fighting something is quite a nice feeling, as is being able to use magic mapping on every level.
Results:
(Ascending at least one game from each gender and each alignment)
(Ascending at least one game from each gender; in consecutive games)
(Winning at least one game of ZAPM
(Defeating the necromancers Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde in the Challenge level)
It looks like I placed 3rd in the ZAPM Most Unique Deaths, a major trophy I was considering going for for a while, but ended up unwilling to put enough time into. I was the leader for a little while back in the first half of the month, but then I slacked off.
Overall, I had a great time playing in the tournament, both NetHack and ZAPM. Now it's time to return to trying to ascend all 13 roles over on NAO.
